Coppers & Rubies

Yesterday I saw two Ruby Tiger moths. Their caterpillars live off ragwort and docks.

I also saw two Small Copper butterflies on the mound near the mine covers. Their caterpillars live off sorrels and there is what looks like sheep sorrel on the mound.

- Jane

Jane spotted these two beautiful critters on Thursday 3rd August during our Thistle Pull. They were a bit quick for a close up of both so we’ve given you an artist’s impression of the Small Copper butterfly on the left and the Ruby Tiger moth on the right. You can look both of these up at either Butterfly Conservation or UK Butterflies where you’ll find lots more information.

Wonderful to see them thriving on the field.
