Spring equinox (nearly)

20 Mar 2025

It seems the sun is often shining on Wild Maple Field - another great morning for our work party. This time planting field scabious and knapweed plug plants, putting up bird boxes to encourage flycatchers and more pond excavation to expose the original stone base. Plus cake to celebrate Cath's birthday.

We were also treated to displays from three buzzards, a hunting kestrel and the most magnificent flypast by a red kite, swooping low over our heads and stunningly beautiful.

The new hedge and trees are greening up and looking healthy and there’s frog spawn and water beetles in the pond. Regular bird recording walks are underway and there are dates in the calendar for small insect and mammal monitoring. Katie has started some fixed-point photography to keep track of the many changes. Busy, busy, busy!
